Introduction

My name is Charlie Barault. I approach visual projects with a on constraints, intentions and finding meaning. Curious and versatile, I like to take the time to analyze a project and the possibilities it offers before giving it an impactful visual form using the most appropriate tools and techniques.

Each project is an opportunity for me to explore my own creativity and existing resources: understanding its constraints, listening to its needs, and transforming an idea into a visual solution that is accurate, legible, and sensitive. I create images designed to meet a need, in line with my values and those of the projects I work on.

Inspired by contrasting graphic visuals, references to printmaking, and medieval or arts and crafts motifs, each creation is a search for balance between constraint, functionality, and identity. This portfolio reflects my approach to creation—organized, curious, and always in search of coherent and engaging visual solutions.

With a master's degree in modern literature (specializing in the Renaissance) and a master's degree in art history, I have developed a solid visual and theoretical culture, nourished by a particular attention to forms, images, and their uses.

I have complemented this background with training in design and digital tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Figma), as well as the basics of web development, enabling me to design websites, user interfaces, products, posters, and printed materials.

My practice of tattooing, drawing, and painting enriches my approach to design with a keen sense of pattern, composition, and visual identity. I have a particular interest in the theory and perception of color, including Chevreul's theory of contrasts and phenomena such as synesthesia.

While my relationship with images is primarily creative, I like to put this creativity at the service of functionality, in order to offer designs that are legible, coherent, and pleasing to users.
